Terms of Use

Storybook, by Fabricio Dujardin · Last updated 31 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Storybook app and, if you enable it, the Storybook sync service (together, "Storybook"). By using Storybook you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use it.

1. What Storybook is

Storybook is a private record-keeping tool: a log of the things you care about — starting with your children — stored encrypted on your device, with an optional paid service that carries encrypted copies between your own devices. Your records are yours; we hold them only as described in the Privacy Policy.

2. Your account is your keys

Storybook has no passwords on our side. Your encryption keys are generated on your device and never leave it — except as the recovery kit (a word list you can write down) that you choose to keep. If you lose every device with your records and the recovery kit, your records cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else. That is a real way to lose data, and it is the price of the privacy the app promises. Please keep your recovery kit somewhere safe.

3. Subscriptions

The app is complete and free to use on one phone. An optional subscription ("Family") is sold through Google Play and the App Store and pays for the sync service. Payment is charged to your store account when you confirm the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renewal in your store account settings, at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in Google Play or the App Store; managing or querying a subscription is never locked behind another payment.

A lapsed or cancelled subscription never locks you out of records already on your devices, and copies already pulled from the service remain yours.

4. Not medical advice

Storybook is a record-keeping tool, not a medical device and not a source of medical advice. The immunisation schedules and other reference material bundled with it are transcribed copies of published public schedules, provided for convenience; they may be out of date or may not reflect what your clinician recommends for your child. No part of Storybook decides what care anyone should receive. Growth charts in Storybook plot only what you measured and draw no reference curves. Always consult a qualified clinician about medical questions.

5. Sharing is your decision

Exports and share links contain content you chose to share, encrypted under a passphrase or key you chose. Anyone who has the link, file, or passphrase can keep, copy, or forward it; expiry and one-time limits stop the link from working but cannot retract what a recipient already saw. You are responsible for what you share and with whom.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use the sync service to store or distribute unlawful content, to attempt to disrupt or overload the service, or to probe or attack it or other users. We may revoke sync access that abuses the service. Nothing in this section affects the records on your device.

7. Third-party services

Subscriptions are processed by Google and Apple under their own terms. The sync service runs on cloud infrastructure (currently Cloudflare) which processes data on our instructions only, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. No warranty

Storybook is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We do not promise it is error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose, and we are not responsible for data loss arising from lost keys, lost devices, uninstalling the app, or the limitations honestly described in these terms and in the app itself.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to Storybook is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

10. Changes

We may update these terms; the current version is always this page. Continued use after an update means you accept it. If a change is material we will say so in the app or on this page.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
